Fantastick!

Last night was the debut performance for the Hastings Community Theatre's 2007-2008 season.

The show is called The Fantasticks and while I have only heard rumors of its quality the brochure says it is the "longest-running musical in the world" and that's gotta mean something.

With the community's connection to the college and its ongoing passion for the arts, the quality of the performances by the Hastings Community Theatre is outstanding. They are proud to boast 48 consecutive seasons and I think that is just "Fantastick!"

If you haven't been... it's time to go!

Hastings College Homecoming

It will be a busy weekend in town as we welcome HC alums back into the community for the college's homecoming celebration.

The Melody Round-up Parade on Saturday morning brings out community members and students alike and will showcase bands from all over the state. And what would homecoming be without a football game? Hastings will take on Northwestern and kick-off is scheduled for 2 pm. A complete schedule of the weekend events can be found at www.hastings.edu

In honor of the college's 125th year the celebration should be bigger and better than ever.

GO BRONCOS!

Kool-Aid Man's Footprints

Let's start this blog off right by making it known... Hastings is the Official Birthplace of Kool-Aid!

Kool-Aid Man's footprints, which were originally placed at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, are now located right outside the Visitor's Center in Hastings, 100 North Shore Drive.

Sitting in view of the footprints everyday it is amazing the number of families that pile out of their vehicles and position themselves around the prints for a family photo. I would guess that very few Hastings residents know about the footprints but they are a favorite for the visitors wanting the full "Kool-Aid" experience.

We are hoping to get a plaque that will read:

Kool-Aid man made his television debut during a Kool-Aid commercial in 1975. To celebrate 25 years of delivering smiles and fruity refreshment to thirsty children his footprints were immortalized in concrete at the world famous Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in the year 2000.

The Kraft Corporation donated the footprints to Hastings, Nebraska, the Official Birthplace of Kool-Aid, in appreciation for the city's ongoing efforts to preserve the history of the beverage invented by Edwin Perkins in 1927.

Why Blog?

I must admit I was skeptical of the blog at first ...

After some thought I realized that blogging is a great opportunity for communicating directly with the traveler because it opens the lines of communication. I could tell you everything I know about Hastings but unless I give you (the traveler) the opportunity to ask questions, express your interests and hear what others have to say it really doesn't help you.

This blog will address current activities and events happening in Hastings and is intended to promote Hastings as a destination for travelers by sparking an online discussion. I encourage your comments, your opinions and your questions.

I believe Hastings is a great place to live, work and play and here's why...
