Bread from the Back Alley

This month Nebraska Life Magazine did a feature article on the Back Alley Bakery in Hastings. I am a neighbor and supporter of the bakery and think that this venture is just one example of the great character found in this community.

The bakery is located in a once-neglected building in downtown Hastings at 609 1/2 West Second Street. The oven was built by locals Todd Brown and John Hamburger from plans by famous oven builder Alan Scott.

Every weekend there is a line in the "back alley" with locals stocking up on their loaves of bread and cinnamon rolls for the week. Walking into the small bread lined room is an experience. The bakers are the sellers and the oven is right there for everyone to see.

It's bread made with heart in the heart of Hastings! Stop in and check it out!
